Get Out, Be Creative.

My photography and video workshops take me all over the UK with Calumet.

What strikes me all to often is that we are all so busy doing what we do, that when it comes to putting in some extra hours taking skills to the next level many are not making that time.

In this day and age it is important to be current modern and developing, because more changes in the industry are coming, I can see that.

Now maybe living and breathing what you do is not everyones cup of tea, maybe just maybe it is not required, however my advice is to do some pushups from time to time.

I don't mean hit the gym, more go out with no preconceived idea of what you wish to take and experiment. grab a long lens and do some street photography, I don't mean spy on your neighbour, one step leads to another that is my way of thinking.

This weekend I am at Oulton Park with British GT's which if you are not familiar with this racing is exotic cars like the Ferrari 458, McLaren MP4 , Mercedes SLS, BMW Z4, Nissan GTR and so on.

It is a packed grid, more to come.

Enjoy Easter

Hands on with the Canon EOS C300 Pro cini recorder.

Got my hands on the C300 yesterday, Canon describe it as a ground-breaking professional cine camera.

I was initially thinking how long will it take me to get to grips with this new piece of kit which surprisingly was not overly complicated. Granted there was someone on hand to show me the basics.

Canon EOS C300

Like with any new technology once you get a few results the confidence to push on is there.

Having looked over the specs I thought I may notice some extra weight but its design and the hand strap with lens did not feel much greater than a 1DX, now it may be but it didn't feel it.

After the quick induction its a case of working through the quick start manual and some button pressing.

One thing I did notice and liked was the 3 inbuilt ND grads, 2, 4 and 6 stop, if you want to keep a hold of the shallow depth of field using wide open f-stops in good light this will come in very useful.

ISO range goes up to 20,000 which looks plenty, setting a custom white balance is even easier than with your Canon DSLR.

By holding the custom white balance button then fill the frame with your grey card the camera will work it out for you and set accordingly, that's it done. Seems too easy and it is, seconds.

The camera has complex functions that I never even close to getting into but can you get to grips with it Yes, is it user friendly Yes.

I was just getting started... more to come

VIDEO McLaren F1 Car at Goodwood Media Day 2013

Goodwood Festival of Speed Preview Day Video Part 3

McLaren displayed one of their F1 cars at the Goodwood Festival of Speed preview day outside the main house.

This will the opening sequence for my Goodwood Festival of Speed video titled  "200mph and Up."

McLaren will be at the 2013 Goodwood Festival of Speed, already confirmed are another six F1 teams with all cars running the hill.

F1 Teams confirmed attending are Ferrari, Red Bull, Mercedes, Lotus, Caterham, Marussia and McLaren.

McLaren’s road car division will also show its P1 hypercar in action in front of over 185,000 spectators over the weekend.

The Final video can be viewed here.

VIDEO McLaren MP4-12C Can Am special Edition at Goodwood Media day 2013

Goodwood Festival of Speed Preview Day Video Part 2

The McLaren MP4-12C Can Am special edition attended the Goodwood Festival of Speed Preview day earlier this week.

Heavily influenced by the MP4-12C GT3 race car, the MP4-12C Can-Am Edition has been developed by McLaren GT, the new subdivision of the automaker specializing in developing race cars. It features a wide body kit, fully complemented by a carbon fiber splitter, dive planes, rear spoiler, and rear diffuser, helping increase downforce by over 30-percent compared to the factory model.

The cars resting location on the day didn't offer much opportunity for great detail footage it was simply too busy unlike the McLaren F1 car, that video will follow.

The final video can be viewed here.

VIDEO Bentley Speed 8 Le Mans car at Goodwood Media day 2013

Goodwood Festival of Speed Preview Day Video Part 1

The  Bentley Speed 8 attended the Goodwood Festival of Speed Preview day earlier this week.

The Bentley Speed 8 an amazing car that raced at the Le Mans 24hour.

This and the following videos show the process I go through when pulling together the footage, being mindful of the theme.

Not all of this footage will make it into the final video, some cleaning up and tightening of sequences will happen.

Each composition is a manageable chunk of footage that has to transition from one section to another and keep or develop the overall feel. Working in sections like this helps me decide what footage should go before or proceed in a running order.

I am also keeping an eye on the overall total time for the project and what I feel will be most interesting experience for the viewer, so at first I will overrun each section then cut back in the final edit.

At this early stage it is about having options, developing the look and feel.

The final video can be viewed here.

2013 Goodwood Festival of Speed Preview Day 2013.

On arrival at Goodwood for the preview day we popped inside for morning tea, this adjacent room theme was set out as the great train robbery, day 1 I am told was the robbery and day two forensics with people in period dress, the theme ran all day, brilliant.

Canon 1DX Skateboarding Video Shoot.

Manchester Photographer Jason Harry skateboarding video shoot
Been out shooting a skateboarding video with the Canon 1DX and 5D mk2  today. The 1DX is a great camera with amazing ISO capability.

Will post a short edit from our video shoot later today.

I was happily working in tight locations that other camera's of this quality just could not of got.

At times perhaps the action was a little too close but if it helps to get THE shot I am right there.

The 1DX is a little heavier than the 5D mk2, being honest I prefer heavy than light, sits nicely in your hands.

Also used today was the Calumet 7" LCD monitor shown top right and the Calumet video rig, more to come in another post.
